XTC - Go 2 +1 (UK Version)

TOCP-67802 (2005)

XTC's second album includes a "Bonus" track of "Are You Receiving Me?". This track was included on the US version of the original vinyl as track 6 (and was a single in the US). In other respects the audio is the same.

Out of print (but other items from this artist may be available)

Overall I found this a disappointing replica for a number of reasons. Firstly, it does contain the dub tracks that came on a bonus disc with the original release. This is made more painful by the fact that it does contain the insert used for the bonus disc. A second disc was not necessary but at least the tracks could have been included. Another disappointment is that the poster is not to scale with the back cover. As with many Mini LP inserts the poster has been scaled down to make it easier to take out and replace. In most cases this is fine and a good idea but an exception could have been made in this case as it means the lines on the poster do not match up with the lines on the back cover. Not very well thought out - no credit has been given for the reissue packaging - and perhaps little is due.

Release Details
Manufacturer: EMI
Channels:Stereo
Format:CD
This version released:2005-09-30
Original LP release:1978.10
Audio quality etc:UK track listing but includes the 13th track from the US version.

Packaging
Obi:Orange
Cover:

Single sleeve - the gimmick being that it requires the poster to be laid on top of the back cover in order to complete the text entry (although the full track listing and the remaining words can be found on the "label" on the CD itself).

"This sleeve was written and photographed by Hipgnosis and printed by James Upton Ltd."

Inserts (as per original):

1*2 size poster of the band includes some of the track listing overlaid on the poster. The back of the poster has a map of Swindon (Mouldings' Street Plan of Swindon) with notable events in Colin Mouldings' life. Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding were raised and started playing together in Swindon. The poster also describes Andy Partridge's parents' kitchen in a rambling poetry style and also has a number of photos of the boys.

Go+ insert for the bonus disc - however there is no bonus disc and the tracks are not present on the CD.

Lyrics:Japanese and English on standard black and white thin foldout.

Editor Comments

The cover is true to early UK releases with the poster being required to complete the track listing etc found on the back cover (as shown in the images).

This release also includes an inner slip that would have been wrapped around the bonus disc (Go+) containing dubs of some of the album's tracks. Unfortunately there is no bonus disc and the tracks are not present on the main CD.

* Reprint date is pretty hit and miss (especially older releases). If there's a date it's probably correct but if there's no date there still may have been a reprint. If one mini in a sequential range of minis for one artist has been reprinted then the chances are they all were. The date shown here is the most recent one we know of.
Reprints usually have the obi identical to the original Mini (including release date), often have different stickers on the bag and occasionally have different inserts.
